“Brilliant…a fantastic resource for media teachers and students.”
Steffany Hassell, South Manchester City Learning Centre
This editable film is a downloadable version of one of the films on the Editsense disc. It’s ideal for teaching students how to make movies in Media Studies, Film Studies, Moving Image Arts, ICT and English.
The Beach is mainly aimed at Secondary and FE (Key Stage 3, GCSE and A-level) but Primary school children (Key Stage 2) have enjoyed editing the films. This hands-on filmmaking activity is also popular in youth work and with vocational students.
By selecting from over 50 clips pupils will learn about
- framing: where and when to use wide shots, long shots and close-ups
- editing action: how you can make the action flow from shot to shot
- using camera movements
- using camera position to show the space and how the characters relate to each other
The download includes a sample edit, stills sheet and detailed instructions on how to use the film to learn about framing, sequencing, camera position, camera movement, shot-reverse shot, the 180 degree rule and editing on the action. It also includes a guide to basic iMovie editing techniques.
The Beach is in H.264 format for editing in iMovie 08, 09 or 11.
