Blwyddyn 7 galwedigaethol

  • I started by doing a ‘whole-class’ edit of a sequence from our Editsense resource (as with Year 7) to explore the decisions they could make about shot size, camera position and sequencing. They then edited another sequence from Editsense in groups. We then discussed the opening titles from Run Lola Run.
  • We discussed how the music from the opening sequence of the 1970s science fiction film Soylent Green worked with the images, and then looked at how sound was used in the opening scene from Blade Runner. They then created scores for the sequences they had edited the previous week, using Garageband.
  • We looked at different ways of showing a location using closeups and still images, and then after camera training they went out to shoot their own close-up images around the school.
  • They were given the same ‘suspense sequence’ brief as Year 7, which they planned and filmed, and then edited the following week. Most used iMovie but three boys (who had experience at home with editing software) used the semi-professional Final Cut Express and added effects. They then created scores for their sequences using Garageband.
  • Suspense sequence, edited in Final Cut Express with music scored in Garageband

  • In the final week, I provided them with abstract images images and music to edit together. Some used iMovie, but two groups enthusiastically worked with layering and keyframes in Final Cut Express – including a group of girls who had no experience of editing prior to the project.
  • Montage sequence (using provided images) edited to music in Final Cut Express
